A tribute to Dawn

Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018 at 19:23 hours, one of the strongest women I’ve ever known lost her battle with cancer. Pilot, SCUBA diver, blackbelt, swordswoman; Dawn Hary left this place behind to join her sister, Deb; her father, Raymond; and God in Heaven.

Because of her, I know what it means to fly. Because of her, I don’t fear the deep nor its dwellers. Because of her, I covet the value of self-control in the face of provocation to violence, no matter how angry I become. Because of her, I respect the tool in my hands, knowing that a weapon is only as good or evil as its wielder. Because of her, I know to be kind to all of His creations He placed on this Earth; the fine line between hunting and wanton killing. Because of her, I strive to help those in need however I am able; to do so even if I have very little to offer and, if I find myself in good position, to give more freely than may be considered “wise” by some peoples’ standards.

She taught me all of those and so much more than I can recall. So if you knew her, count yourself lucky. If she respected you, count yourself worthy. If she loved you, count yourself blessed.

In addition to her mother, surviving are her husband: Timothy Hary; sister: Dianne, and husband, Benjamin R. Zoll Jr.; nephews: Tyler and Casey Zoll; and niece: Laney Zoll.

She was predeceased by her sister: Deborah Reitz Skoglund; as well as her father.

Services will be announced at a later date.
