Deaths of Local Interest – Aug. 2, 2017

Kathryn L. Garman, 84, of Lititz, died peacefully after a brief illness on July 28 at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center. For more than 51 years Kathryn was the owner and operator of Kathryn Garman’s Beauty Shop. Her interests included flower gardening and baking. Kathryn loved talking with people and was a great friend to many. Her daughter, Donna J., wife of Donald A. Sherman; and a sister, Evelyn Ober, all reside in Ephrata.

Harold L. Gebhard passed away into the loving arms of his Savior on July 27. Harold proudly served his country for 23½ years in the United States Air Force, followed by 33 years of service to the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Master Mason, a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of Hadji Shrine. Harold loved his country and volunteered and served in Vietnam. His brother, Howard Gebhard, resides in Ephrata.

Robert “Bobby” Eugene Hiestand, 51, of Philadelphia, and formerly of Maytown, passed away July 28. Bobby was a former stock broker and later involved in starting several magazines. He enjoyed writing, playing golf, water sports, and traveling. He also enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and his cats. Bobby was a special person who will lovingly be remembered for his generosity, free spirit, and sense of humor. He was previously married to Dawn Cutillo of Ephrata.

Anna Elizabeth (Holler) Krueger, 86, a homemaker, of Millersville, went home to be with Jesus on July 30 at The Gardens at Stevens. Anne was a member of Living God Fellowship Church, Marietta. She enjoyed singing and was a part of the Lancaster Civic Chorus and the Sweet Adelines. A son, Andrew K. Krueger, resides in Ephrata.

Clyde D. Mellinger, 77, of Lancaster, died July 27 at Conestoga View. He was owner-operator of CDM Trucking. Previously, he owned Conestoga Tire Repair. Clyde attended River Corner Mennonite Church. He loved fishing and always enjoyed driving. His son, Clyde Jr., married to Wendy Mellinger; and a brother, Donald, married to Shirley Mellinger, live in Ephrata. A sister, Ethel Bingaman, resides in Stevens.

Jay J. Stoltzfus, 83, formerly of Paradise, passed away July 31. He attended Keystone Church of Paradise. Jay drove a truck for Victor Weaver Inc., of New Holland, worked for Messner Brothers of Terre Hill, did lawn care, worked for David Esh of Gordonville, and provided transportation to the Amish community. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, camping, and playing cards, and was an avid Phillies fan. His daughter, Susan Y., wife of David Hibshman, lives in Denver.
