Deaths of Local Interest – Dec. 6, 2017

Arlene K. Charles, 87, of Fairmont Homes, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving nieces and nephews on Nov. 29. Arlene served for many years as an aide at Landis Homes and Mennonite Home before retiring and would then volunteer at the Columbia Re-Uzit Shop. She was known to be very hospitable and enjoyed cooking for guests that would visit. Arlene was a longtime member of Blue Rock Mennonite Church.

Donald E. “Don” Dunkelberger, 59, of Lancaster, passed away Nov. 28 at Lancaster General Hospital. He worked at R.R. Donnelley for 16 years, and drove truck for Granite Transportation in York. Don enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, listening to music, dancing and going to the shore and helping others. He was caring and loving to his best friends, Brindle and Bella. His dogs meant so much to him. A son, Scott E. Dunkelberger (Devyn), lives in Stevens.

Michael S. Slusser, 59, of New Providence, passed away Dec. 2. He was employed for 37 years by Exelon, working at Peach Bottom Nuclear Plant. He was an avid boater, and enjoyed spending time with his family fishing in Ocean City, Md. Michael also enjoyed hunting, and had been a member of the Lancaster Archery Club. Spending time with his three grandsons was very important to him. His daughter, Liz (Eric) Ackerman, lives in Ephrata.

Mary Jane Walschburger, 87, of Lancaster, formerly of Reading, passed away Nov. 28. She was a member of the Reading Liederkranz where she was involved in the G.T.V. Edelweiss Schuhplattlers dance group for many years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren who affectionately knew her as “Oma.” She is survived by a daughter, Susan Marie Getz, wife of Troy, of Ephrata.
