Deaths of Local Interest – Jan. 31, 2018

Robert J. Allison Sr., 76, of Conestoga View, formerly of Gordonville, passed away Jan. 26. He was a custodian for the Conestoga Valley School District. He enjoyed bowling, was a member of the Gordonville Fire Company, and had attended the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, New Holland. A brother, Anthony Allison, resides in Ephrata.

Grace E. Evans, 95, formerly of Christiana, passed away Jan. 26 at Fairmount Homes, Ephrata. She was a member of the Christiana Methodist Church and the ladies Sunday School class. She worked at the former Keens IGA store of Christiana. In the past she was active in the Christiana Fire Company and Christiana American Legion Ladies Auxiliaries, Christiana Historical Society, Parkesburg Senior Citizens, and Lancaster Chapter of the NRHS. She enjoyed crocheting, rollerskating, and crafts.

Virginia Ray “Tippy” Lunt, 95, passed away Jan. 27 at the Mennonite Home in Lancaster. She worked for Ophthalmologist Dr. Dale Posey as an assistant for 19 years. After retiring, she worked for ten years for Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to clients each day. Tippy sang with the Harrisburg Symphony Choir for many years as a first alto. She also sang with the Market Square Presbyterian Church Choir. She had a great fondness for cats. Her dear friend Janice L. Southwick lives in Akron.

Jane E. Merkey, 85, of Manheim, died peacefully at home on Jan. 25. For many years Jane helped her husband on the family farm. She attended Mount Hope United Christian Church, Manheim. Jane and Mark enjoyed having a stand at Green Dragon Farmers Market. Over the years, Jane volunteered by playing the piano in three churches. Throughout her life, her passion was her family; and she treasured her time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Barbara A. Millisock, 69, of Narvon, died Jan. 25 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. Barbara worked for the past 17 years in quality control at Dart Container in Leola. Prior to that she worked in several area sewing factories. She was a member of Gospel Tabernacle, enjoyed going to the beach, and enjoyed puzzle books. Her brother, Wayne, married to Barb Refford, lives in East Earl.

Lydia W. (Hurst) Nolt, 84, of Lititz, passed away Jan. 25 at home after a short illness. She was a member of Meadow Valley Mennonite Church of the Weaverland Conference. She is survived by five children. Her son, Carl H., husband of Karen (Sensenig) Nolt, lives in Ephrata.

Martin M. Nolt, 85, of Ephrata, entered into rest Jan. 26. He was the widower of Lizzie M. (Horning) Nolt. Memories and condolences may be shared at
