Deaths of Local Interest – July 12, 2017

Harry E. Boyer passed away June 28 at the Bob Fryer Hospice Inpatient Center, Mount Joy. He retired from the VA Medical Center, Lebanon, after 25 years of service as a supervisor maintenance grounds keeper. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Brownson during the Korean War. He was an avid Phillies fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, puzzling and the company of his pets. His daughter, Dolores, wife of Robert Martin, lives in Ephrata.

George Paul Meissner, 90, of Lancaster, died at his home on June 30. George was a 33rd Degree Mason belonging to the Ephrata Lodge 665, Free and Accepted Masons; Lancaster Lodge of Perfection; A.A.S.R. Valley of Reading. He served in the United States Navy on USS Essex in the Pacific during World War II. He worked for Bulova Technology, formerly Hamilton Technology and Hamilton Watch, for 50 years.

Lorraine Oberlin Patschke Wagaman, 94, of Lititz, passed away at the United Zion Retirement Home on July 6. In her prime, she was a stay-at-home mom and homemaker, and, in her 70s, worked as a salesperson at Doneckers, which probably contributed to her being known as a prodigious collector of fine clothes and stylish shoes. Lorraine was a lover of the Big Band music of the 1940s, flowers, and gourmet cooking. She was very proud of her Lititz heritage and quite knowledgeable about her hometown.
