Deaths of Local Interest – June 8, 2016

Shirley L. Finnegan, 84, of Leola, entered into rest May 29 at her daughter’s home while surrounded by her family. Born in Ephrata, Shirley was a homemaker and a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Leola. She enjoyed camping and spending time with family.

John J. “Tom” Haas, 79, of East Earl, died at his home June 4. Tom retired in 2001 as a truck driver for New Holland Concrete after more than 20 years of service. During the Vietnam Era he served in the U.S. Army. He always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His sister, Hazel Whitehead, resides in Ephrata.

Dorothy G. Sauder, 90, of Manheim, passed on peacefully June 4 at Bob Fryer and Family Inpatient Center of Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy. She was employed by the former Naugle Garment Factory in Manheim, and was a standholder at Root’s Country Market. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and traveling. Her daughter, Deborah, wife of Doug Krasley, lives in Ephrata.

Arlene E. Stauffer, 87, of Lancaster, passed away May 27 at Brethren Village Retirement Community. Arlene worked for the Walter W. Moyer Co. for 15 years. She also led the youth group at Ephrata Unithed Methodist Church. She enjoyed giving musical programs, and her other hobbies included knitting and ceramics. Her daughter, Charlene L. Kulesa, wife of Robert, lives in Denver.

Grace S. Weaver, 97, of New Holland, died June 1 at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Blue Ball Mennonite Church. A daughter, Naomi, married to Raymond Good, lives in Denver. A sister, Gladys S., married to Lester Martin, resides in Ephrata.
