Dorothy M. Binkley, Akron, Colebrook-Terry plant manager, liked romantic movies, superb cook

Dorothy M. Binkley, the widow of Christ Binkley Jr. of Akron, passed away at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital on Thursday, June 7, 2018

Born Dec. 6, 1945, in Bird-in-Hand, Dorothy, one of a family of 10 children, was a daughter of Curtis Sweigart and Minnie (Englert) Sweigart.

Surviving Dorothy are her children: Christian S. Binkley III, husband of Kathy (Thompson) of Ephrata; Michael Binkley, husband of Vanessa (Root) of Ephrata; and Tina Sweigart, wife of Steven Sweigart of Myerstown; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters: Norma Buzzard, Myra Harsh, and Jean Maurer; and two brothers: Galen and John Sweigart.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents; her husband; a son: Dennis; a grandson: Christian Binkley IV; and four siblings: Alverta Diem, Fay Gehman, Curtis Sweigart, and Genevieve Sweigart.

Dorothy worked for Colebrook-Terry Manufacturing in Akron; starting as a bagger and rising to the position of plant supervisor.

She loved spending time upstate at the family cabin, playing 500 rummy with her grandkids and Scrabble with her ‘adult’ family. She was an avid gardener, a fabulous cook, and a loyal fan of romantic movies (especially) “tear-jerkers.” Dorothy delighted in watching birds, and she adored her grandchildren, and her dog, Gabby. She will be deeply missed by her family.

Services were June 12 at Gravenor Home for Funerals, Ephrata, with Rev. William Weiser,officiating. Interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery followed the service.
