Dr. David Frankhouser, 81, chemist, patent attorney, worked at Wyeth and Eli Lilly

Guina Garic Frankhouser announces with deep regret and profound sadness the death of her husband, Dr. David Edward Frankhouser, at the Lancaster General Hospital, Friday the 27th of June in his 81st year. He had resided in Ephrata since 1995.

David was born and raised in Shillington, where he graduated from the former Shillington High School. He then earned a BS in Chemistry and Mathematics at Albright College in Reading, and a PhD in Organic Chemistry/Biochemistry and Business Management from the University of Illinois at Champaign. Later in his professional career, David earned a law degree from Temple University and was admitted to practice law before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Dr. Frankhouser’s career started as a chemist at Hercules Powder Company in Delaware. He later became the Project Coordinator for Research & Development for Wyeth Laboratories. Other career positions included intellectual property work at Eli Lilly and Chief Patent Attorney for an international research institute at Strasbourg, France, where he created the Law Department. David concluded his career back in the U.S. as Chief Patent Counsel and Director of Intellectual Property for Boehringer Ingelheim, a major pharmaceutical company based in Connecticut.

In 1994, David retired to pursue his many interests in science, law, history, music, and reading. He especially enjoyed his relationships with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by three brothers: John, Sam, and Paul Frankhouser; brother-in-law: Michel Garic; their wives; and many nieces and nephews.

David will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Guina and the family express their sincere gratitude to the team of doctors and especially to all the nurses who brought to David their devoted care and endless support.

Please join the Frankhouser family for a Celebration of David’s Life on Wednesday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 1 E. Lancaster Ave., Shillington. Rev. Willacin Precious Gholston, M.Div., will officiate.
