E. Laverne Hummer, 85, Fulton Bank teller, Hershey Bears fan, collected angels, dog lover

E. Laverne Hummer, 85, of Ephrata, formerly of Akron, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, at her home.

She was born in Akron to the late Isaac and Bertha K. (Buch) Shirk.

Laverne was a former member of the Ephrata Church of the Brethren. She worked as a bank teller in several local banks, and retired from Fulton Bank in Lancaster. She attended many college courses at the American Institute of Banking, where she was a past district representative. She was a big fan of Jimmy Johnson, collected angels, and loved going with her dad to see the Hershey Bears. Over the years she enjoyed her dogs, Penny, Louey, and Tonya, who never left her side.

Laverne is survived by her dog: Tonya; and many angels who cared for her, allowing her to stay in her own home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister: R. Eleonor Reinard.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, Dec. 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. Ninth St., Akron. Funeral services will follow at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Rob Eshelman officiating. A private interment will take place in the Middle Creek Brethren Cemetery.
