Elam Zimmerman, dairy farmer

Elam M. Zimmerman, age 67, Penn Yan, N.Y., died Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 in the comfort of his home.

Elam was born February 15, 1944 in New Holland, the son of the late David G. and Hattie N. Martin Zimmerman. On Nov. 11, 1965, in New Holland, he married the former Elizabeth S. Martin.

A self-employed dairy farmer; they lived and raised their family in Ephrata. Retiring to Penn Yan in 2008, Mr. Zimmerman was a member of the Benton Mennonite Church.

He is survived and will be missed by his wife of almost 46 years: Elizabeth S. Zimmerman, at home; three sons: Nelson M., husband of Marian Zimmerman, Glenn M., husband of Marlene Zimmerman, and Leon M., husband of Wilma Zimmerman, all of Penn Yan; 23 grandchildren; four brothers: David M. Zimmerman, of Ephrata; Aaron M., husband of Ada Zimmerman, of Dundee; Noah M., husband of Lizzie Zimmerman, of Roaring Springs; Daniel M., husband of Erla Zimmerman, of Shippensburg; two sisters: Katie M. Zimmerman, of Millmont; and Ella M., wife of Ammon Martin, of Martinsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by a son: James M. Zimmerman, in 1966; and two brothers: Martin Zimmerman, in 1981; and Jacob Zimmerman, in 2009.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 5 at the Benton Mennonite Church, Baldwin Road, Penn Yan. Burial took place in the church cemetery.

Arrangements were made by the Baird Funeral Home, Dundee, N.Y.
