Elmer H. Hirneisen, 102, WWII vet, worked for A.O. Smith, Fleetaire, father of three

Elmer H. Hirneisen, 102, of Ephrata, formerly of Stevens, passed away on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at Keystone Villa.

He was born in West Cocalico Township to the late Barton L. and Alice (Henly) Hirneisen, and was the husband of the late Helen S. (Steely) Hirneisen with whom he shared 77 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2016.

He was a member of Mellingers Evangelical Lutheran Church, and A.A.R.P. Elmer retired after seven years of working for Fleetaire Corp. in Ephrata. Prior to that he worked for A.O. Smith of Leola for 18 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Elmer is survived by two daughters: Lorraine, wife of David Eberly of Ephrata; and Janet Hirneisen of New Holland; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Elmer was preceded in death by a son: Kenneth B. Hirneisen; a granddaughter: Julia Hirneisen; and two brothers: Leon H. and Chester Hirneisen.

The family would like to thank the staff at Keystone Villa, Ephrata, and Hospice and Community Care, Lancaster, for the care Elmer received.

Services were held Oct. 13 at Mellingers Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stevens, with Pastor Timothy Craven officiating. Interment was in the Mellingers Union Cemetery.
