Elsie Naomi Spitler, 87, Gerber’s seamstress, Trinity Lutheran member, enjoyed bingo

Elsie Naomi Spitler, 87, of Lititz, formerly a longtime Ephrata resident, passed away at home Tuesday, July 14, 2015.

Her longtime companion, Ronald R. Smith, passed away April 14, 2007. Elsie was born in Akron, daughter of the late Roy H. and Marcella E. (Simmons) Deyer.

She worked as a sewing machine operator at the former W.W. Moyer Co. and Gerber Children’s Wear in Ephrata. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ephrata and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Elsie was also an avid bingo player.

Surviving are five children: Larry L. Wanner, husband of Nancy, of Lancaster; Dennis L. Wanner of Ephrata; Brenda J., wife of Richard Croft Sr., of Lititz; Deborah A. Kimmel of Ephrata; and Sharon K., wife of Jeff Geib of Lancaster; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Elsie was preceded in death by her sister: Ethel Heck; and two brothers: Harold Deyer and Eugene Deyer.

Funeral services were held July 17 at Paul L. Gravenor Home for Funerals, Ephrata, with Rev. Henry E. Herbener officiating. She was interred in Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery, Ephrata Township.
