Emmanuel C. ‘Bruce’ Mackey Jr., 82, Vietnam vet, computer programmer, family man, opera lover

Emmanuel C. “Bruce” Mackey Jr., 82, passed away at his Clay Township. home on Thursday, June 16, 2016.

He was born in Philadelphia to the late Emmanuel C. Mackey Sr. and Amy Ecker Mackey. Bruce was the loving husband of Marilyn Adams Mackey and they marked their 33rd anniversary on June 4.

Bruce studied engineering at Northeastern University and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a computer programmer, subcontracting his services to the New Cumberland Army Depot.

He was a great family man, who loved classical and opera music. Bruce enjoyed computers and reading technical and language books. Along with Marilyn, he previously did pet therapy with their dogs at Lebanon VA Medical Center. He attended Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ephrata.

In addition to his wife: Marilyn; Bruce is survived by his son: James Robert Grant, husband of Linda, of Strafford, N.H.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepsons: Barry Parnell of Warminster; and Keith Parnell, partner of Phyllis, of Philadelphia; two step-grandchildren; and three sisters: twins Peggy Mackey of Philadelphia and Mary Carbone, wife of Nicholas, of Bala Cynwyd; and Patricia Schach Von Wittenau, wife of Manfred, of Stonington, Conn.

Bruce was preceded in death by his brother: Robert Mackey.

Services were held June 21 at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, Lititz. Interment will be private.
