Ernest E. Shaffer, 92, Akron, WWII vet, Shaffer Service Center owner, collected antique cars

Ernest E. Shaffer, 92, of Akron, passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.

He was born in Augustaville to the late Curtis and Ellen (Racker) Shaffer and was the husband of the late Anna (Heiser) Shaffer and the late Lydia Mae Weaver Nolt Sensenig Shaffer.

Ernest was a member of the Ephrata United Zion Church. He owned and operated Shaffer Service Center for 60 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in the Philippines. Ernest enjoyed antique car collecting.

He is survived by three sons: Ernest Shaffer Jr. of California; Leslie, husband of Judy Shaffer, of Florida; Allen Shaffer of Akron; a daughter: Anna Hartranft of Ephrata; seven grandchildren: Jim, Jeff, Leslie, Ernest, Greg, and Michael Shaffer, Patti Frank; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.

Services were held Nov. 20 at Ephrata United Zion Church, with Pastor Jay H. Showalter officiating. Interment took place at Memory Gardens Memorial Cemetery.
