Ethel Irene Ross, 97, maternity supervisor at Ephrata Hospital, taught bridge class at Landis Homes

Ethel Irene Kauffman Ross, 97, of Lititz, and formerly of Ephrata and Denver, passed away at Landis Homes on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017.

She was the loving wife of the late Robert H. Ross, who passed away Jan. 20, 1988.

She is survived by three children: Sally A., wife of Donald Steffy of Ephrata; Peter M. Ross of Ephrata; and Patrick R. Ross, husband of Kristine (Bell) Ross, of Lancaster; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to her husband, Ethel was preceded in death by her parents: Abram and Sadie (Fisher) Kauffman; and her brother: Abram Kauffman.

Ethel worked as a registered nurse and was supervisor of maternity and nursery at ECH during the early 1950s, after which she did private duty work. She was also payroll clerk at her husband’s accounting business, Robert H. Ross & Co., Inc., as well as being a dedicated homemaker.

Ethel was a member of Faith United Lutheran Church in Denver, and loved spending time at the seashore, working on jigsaw puzzles, and playing bridge. She even taught a bridge class at Landis Homes so that she would have plenty of card playing partners.

Memorial services were held at Faith United Lutheran Church, 3 Denver, on Jan. 2. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
