Eugene Enck, vet, worked for Elizabethtown schools

Eugene Z. Enck died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 in Elizabethtown.

A son of Adam E. and Mary Z. Enck, Eugene was born in Ephrata on Aug. 28, 1918. He was the husband of the late Lucetta Frey Enck.

Eugene moved to Elizabethtown in 1932 and worked for 27 years for Leaman Tire Company and in 1964 went to work for the Elizabethtown Area School District, retiring in 1984. He continued to work part-time and volunteering until 2005. He was a life elder at the First Church of God, Elizabethtown, where he taught Sunday school for many years and served on church council. Eugene and Lucetta enjoyed camping for many years, especially in retirement with their grandchildren. Riding horseback was a hobby since he was young, having ridden with the Pennsylvana State Guard during World War II. He was best known for his calmness and patience, always willing to help a person in need.

He is survived by sons: Dorsey Eugene, husband of Kim Enck; and Robert L., husband of Janice Enck; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was the oldest of 13 siblings and is survived by sisters: Esta, wife of Elam Hoffer, of Manheim; Betty, wife of Robert Keener; and Elsie, wife of Victor Armer, of Ephrata.

He was predeceased by a son: Jay G. Enck; brothers: Gilbert, Richard, Leon, Adam, John, Charles and James; and sisters: Mae, wife of Harold Grassel; and Mary, wife of Warren Kline.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his life celebration funeral service from the First Church of God, 144 S. Market Street, Elizabethtown, on Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in West Green Tree Cemetery.
