George E. Stricker Jr., 79, Army vet, Kurtz’s Riding Stable worker, enjoyed fishing, auctions

George E. Stricker Jr., 79, a resident of Ephrata Manor, formerly of Denver, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Denver to the late George E. and Mary E. (Troxel) Stricker, and was the husband of the late Marilyn L. (Burkey) Stricker, who passed away in 2008.

George was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and spending time at his cabin in the mountains. He was a big supporter of Denver Fire Company bingo, and he was a member of the Friendly Horseman’s Club.

He worked as a farmer, and a horseman for Kurtz’s Riding Stable in Denver and also worked for Gene Martin at Chaparral Farms in Schoeneck. In his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and going to public auctions.

George is survived by two daughters: Tracy A. Stricker of Denver; and Amy B., wife of Kevin Shirk, of Denver; a grandson: Nathaniel E. Shirk; a brother: Jim Stricker, husband of Kathleen (Adams); a sister: MaryJane Amour; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother: Donald Stricker.

Services were held May 13 at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver, with the Rev. Timothy L. Craven officiating. Interment took place in the Steinmetz Cemetery.
