Gerald L. “Jerry” Getz, 69, of Rheems, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017, in intensive care at Lancaster General Hospital after suffering a massive heart attack.

Born in Lititz, he was the only son of the late Harvey C. and Ethel (Shenk) Getz. He grew up in the Ephrata/Akron area.

Jerry retired as an HVAC technician with Sunoco, Harrisburg. In his younger years he was a great car enthusiast. From early childhood he enjoyed going to the family cabin in Potter County; spotting for deer was a family tradition. A very memorable time was when he took his family on vacation to 48 states.

Jerry is survived by his only child, a daughter: Pamela S. Klingler, Elizabethtown, and her companion, Jeff Cleary. Pam was very precious to her Daddy and they shared a special relationship.

Also surviving is a sister: Elaine, wife of Lee Gearhart; four nephews; four aunts; one uncle; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by a sister: Alverta M. Hawk.

Having made peace with God some of his last words were: “Jesus, come and get me.”

Services were held Aug. 2 at Stradling Funeral Home, Akron.

Flowers are welcome, as are donations to help with funeral expenses. Monetary gifts may be sent to Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut Street, Denver, PA 17517.
