Geraldine ‘Gerry’ L. Shuey, 81, homemaker, active at Hopeland UMC, enjoyed spending time at family cabin

Geraldine “Gerry” L. Shuey, 81, of Manheim, formerly of North Maple Street, Ephrata, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, at Pleasant View Retirement Community.

She was born in Hopeland to the late Paul M. and Violet U. (Erwin) Enck, and was the wife of John H. Shuey, with whom she celebrated 63 years of marriage this past June.

She was a lifelong member of Hopeland United Methodist Church, where she was a lay leader, former Sunday school teacher, and taught the young married women’s Bible study. She was also a member and past president of Ephrata Christian Women’s Club and a member of Stonecroft Ministries.

Gerry was a homemaker. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, spending time with her grandchildren and visiting their cabin in Potter County.

In addition to her husband, Gerry is survived by four children: Kathy A., wife of Bryan Neff of Coudersport; Kerry L., husband of Patti Shuey of Denver; Krista L., wife of Michael Wee of Manheim; Kim N., wife of David Miller of Palmyra; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother: Paul R., husband of Priscilla Enck; and a sister: Pauletta, wife of Terry Engleman.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pleasant View for their kind and compassionate care.

Services were held Oct. 13 at Hopeland United Methodist Church, Lititz, with Pastor Jody Sambrick officiating. Interment took place in the Hopeland Cemetery.
