Harry T. Heckathorn, 49, recent U.S. Army retiree, member of Ephrata VFW and Amvets

Master Sergeant Harry T. Heckathorn, 49, of Denver, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, as a result of a motorcycle accident on Sunday, July 30, while riding in a poker run to benefit a Schuylkill County Fire Company.
Harry was born in Glendale, W.Va., on March 1, 1968, a son of Betty E (Woods) Heckathorn-Reese, of Denver, and the late Harry Heckathorn
He was a member of the VFW and the Amvets in Ephrata. Harry served in the U.S. Army in both active duty and as a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard as a Master Sergeant. He was deployed to Korea, Kosovo, and the Iraq theatres of operation before retiring in February of 2016. His long military career had him as an infantryman, medic, recruiter, and sniper training NCO. Locally, he was a member of Headquarters Company, 1/111th Infantry in Norristown. He was currently working in the office at Cintas Uniforms in Lancaster.
In addition to his. mother Betty, Harry is survived by a daughter: Carissa (Cari Sue) Heckathorn; and a son: Harry T. (Tommy) Heckathorn II, both of Ephrata. Harry is also survived by two brothers: Todd Eric Heckathorn, of Wernersville; and John Edmond Reese, of Denver; along with his brothers and sisters in uniform with his Pennsylvania Army National Guard family.
A service with full military honors was held Aug. 7 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fulton Bank, Trust Fund for Heckathorn Children, 2350 N. Reading Blvd., Denver, PA 17517 .
