Howard C. Walker, 86, Korea vet, owner of first V & S Sandwich shop, avid fisherman

Howard C. Walker, 86, of Akron, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the Pottstown Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Reading to the late Howard and Martha (Krall) Walker.

Howard owned and operated the first V & S Sandwich shop in downtown Ephrata. He then worked as a butcher for Bob’s Market for many years. After retirement, he worked part time at the Ephrata Wawa. Howard was an avid fisherman, hunter and bowler, who loved the beach at Ocean City, Md. Howard served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW Post No. 38 in Reading.

Howard is survived by two sons: Randy, husband of Lisa Walker, of Ephrata; Brad Anthony, husband of Lucinda Walker, of Ephrata; a daughter: Cindy, wife of Linford Zimmerman, of Ephrata; four grandchildren: Chelsea, Ryan, and Andrea Zimmerman; and Calvin Walker.

A graveside service was held June 6 at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring, with Pastor Rob Eshelman officiating. Military honors were accorded by the Honor Guard.
