Ivan W. Weitzel, 91, WWII vet, Kurtz Precast carpenter, great pitcher and avid baseball fan

Ivan W. Weitzel, 91, formerly of Denver, died July 12, 2017, in Conestoga View, Lancaster.

Born in Brecknock Township, a son of the late Howard K. Weitzel and Florence (Fritz) Weitzel Lesher, he was married for 69 years to the late Helen (King) Weitzel, who died Sept. 30, 2013.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a carpenter with Kurtz Precast (later High Concrete), Denver. Ivan was a member of Swamp Christian Fellowship Church, Reinholds; life member of Reinholds VFW and the fire company. A great pitcher in his day, he was an avid baseball fan and played in the Ephrata Legion and Reinholds softball leagues. He also enjoyed hunting.

Surviving is his son: Robert L., married to Sharon J. (Steffy) Weitzel, Robesonia; and brothers: Frederick S. Lesher; and Kenneth J., married to Nancy (Zell) Lesher, all of Denver.

He was also predeceased by his stepfather: Roy R. Lesher; grandson: Jesse L. Weitzel; and brother: Donald Lesher.

Inurnment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown.
