J. Harold Sweigart, 90, EHS grad, WWII vet, Burnham Corp. manager, active at Trinity Lutheran

J. Harold Sweigart, 90, of Ephrata, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at Ephrata Manor.

He was the loving husband of Kathryn J. (Kilhefner) Sweigart, and son of the late Reuben B. and Hannah (Miller) Sweigart.

Harold was a lifetime resident of Ephrata and a member of the Ephrata High School Class of 1943. He later graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry, and worked as a purchasing manager for Burnham Corp. of Lancaster.

He was an active, longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ephrata. Through the years he served as an usher, church council member, choir member, and Sunday School teacher.

Harold was a U.S. Navy veteran and served aboard the U.S.S. Hank in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He was a member of the Cloister Post No. 429 American Legion, Ephrata Lions Club, National Purchasing Association, and a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association.

In addition to his wife, Kathryn, he is survived by four children: Tim S. Sweigart, husband of Carol, of Ephrata; Karen E., wife of Robert Homisak of Palmyra; Susan A., wife of David Watts, of Ephrata; and Steven M. Sweigart, husband of Barbara, of Ephrata; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, with a sixth on the way.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by two brothers: Leo S. Sweigart and Kermit H. Sweigart.

Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 167 E. Main St., Ephrata, on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Henry E. Herbener officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
