J. Ronald Hackman, Ephrata, worked at High Industries, past president of Ephrata Lions

J. Ronald Hackman, passed away peacefully Feb. 16, 2015 at Ephrata Manor.

He was a loving husband to “Renie,” Noreen S. Leisey Hackman, with whom he shared 62 years of a wonderful marriage that started as high school sweethearts.

Ron was born in Lincoln and was the son of the late Margaret Peiffer Hackman.

He was an active member of Hope United Methodist Church, having sung in the choir for a number of years. Ron was retired from High Industries in Denver, having previously worked for Kurtz Bros. Concrete. After retirement, he worked part time for various companies. He was a past president of the Ephrata Lions Club and was honored with the Melvin Jones Award.

Because both he and Renie quit school in 1954 to raise a family and felt that education was important, they decided to go to classes to get their GED and passed their tests with honors in 1992.

Ron will be missed for his great sense of humor and the ever-present smile on his face.

In addition to his wife, Renie, he is survived by a daughter: Bonnie L., husband of Donald G. Martin; daughter-in-law: Karen Hackman; grandchildren: Brett Martin (Rachel), Ashley Cataldo (Tyler), Ryan Hackman (Jess), Andrew Hackman (Barbara), Jolea Hackman, and Brady Hackman; great-grandchildren: Greyson, Ethan, Dylan, Samantha, and Brandon; sister: Rhoda Hiester; brothers: Elwood Hackman and Jerry Hackman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Scott D. Hackman; brothers: Sam (Junior), Frank, Harold, Carl; and sisters: Genevieve Ressler, Mary Jane Adams, and Nancy Trostle.

A life celebration was held Feb. 21 at Hope United Methodist Church, Ephrata.
