James R. Ober, 68, EHS grad, Vietnam vet, Diehm & Sons surveyor, avid outdoorsman

James R. Ober, 68, of Brickerville, passed away in the Lancaster General Hospital, surrounded by his family Friday, Nov. 6, 2015.
He was the husband of Rachel S. Sechrist Ober, to whom he was married for 44 years. He was born in Lancaster on Dec. 13, 1946, a son of Jay Russell Ober of Manheim and the late Dorothy M. Grube Ober.
Jim was employed for 37 years as a surveyor for Diehm & Sons in Lititz and also was employed with the Pennsylvania Game Commission in his younger years. He served in the U.S. Army with the First Cavalry in Vietnam. Jim was a graduate of Ephrata High School and also took surveying classes through the Pennsylvania State University. He was a member of the Bear Mountain Camp in Tioga County since 1971; the Reinholds VFW, and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Surviving, in addition to his father and wife, are sisters: Linda Bomberger and husband Timothy of Lititz; Nancy Groswold and husband Eric of Arvada, Colo.; brother: Dennis Ober and wife Deborah (Eby) of Lititz; six nieces; and four nephews.
Memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 13, at 10:30 a.m., in the Brickerville United Lutheran Church, 340 E. 28th Division Highway, Lititz. Interment will be made in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, 2040 Linglestown Road, Suite 201, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
