Jane L. Woodson, 74, Dart Container worker, 1940 PA ‘New Year’s Baby,’ musician

Jane L. Woodson, 74, of 321 Don Dr., New Holland, died Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Ephrata Manor.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert A. Woodson. They would have been married for 40 years in November.

Born in Reinholds, she was the daughter of the late Earl Drexel and Mary (Sweigart) Weidman.

For more than 25 years, she worked at Dart Container. Prior to that, she worked at the former Walter W. Moyer Co.

Jane was the New Year’s Baby for the state of Pa. in 1940. She also was noted for having given birth to her son while she had polio without passing it to him. During her active years, she played the guitar and sang with the RH Country Band.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son: Eugene Hartranft, Ephrata; a daughter: Teresa, married to Keith Buchter, Ephrata; three step-children: Cindy Snow, Troy Woodson, and Kim Rice, all of Va.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three siblings: Shirley, married to Terry Beck, Reading; Martha, married to Lee Morris, Reading; and Sherwood, married to Patsy Drexel, S.C.

She was preceded in death by five siblings: May Kauffman, Ida Eitnier, Floyd Drexel, Albert Drexel, and Elmer “Red” Drexel.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, May 8 at 2 p.m. at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland. Interment will be in Memory Gardens. A viewing will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
