John H. Horning, 84, self-employed mason, carpenter, enjoyed hunting, baseball games

John H. Horning, 84, of Brickerville, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in East Cocalico Township to the late John M. and Lena (Hurst) Horning, and was the husband of the late Helen A. (Long) Horning, who passed away in 2002.

He attended Word of Life Mennonite Fellowship, Lititz. John was a self-employed mason and also worked for Clayton Gerlach and later did carpentry work. He enjoyed hunting, four-wheeling, deep sea fishing, and going to baseball games.

John is survived by two sons: John Horning Jr. of Manheim; Tom Horning of Denver; three daughters: Carol Brenneman of Brickerville, Jewel Horning of Brickerville, Becky Grove of Ephrata; five grandchildren: Bill Brenneman Jr., Melissa Brenneman Auker, Kelly Brenneman, Derek Horning, Dwight Horning; eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters: Laura, Verna, Minerva, and Lena.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Anna and Esther.

Services were held June 26 at Hammer Creek Mennonite Church, Lititz. Interment took place in the adjoining church cemetery.
