John J. Hoover, 81, Denver, Muddy Creek Mennonite member, father of eight

John J. Hoover, 81, of Denver, died Friday, June 10, 2016, at his residence.

He was the loving husband of Lydia (Newswanger) Hoover, with whom he shared more than 59 years of marriage. Born in Earl Township, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth (Reiff) Hoover.

John was a farmer and a member of Muddy Creek Mennonite Church.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by eight children: Esther Hoover, Denver; Earl Hoover, married to Elva (Zimmerman), Shelby Ohio; Ada, married to Ivan Horning, Mifflinburg; Allen Hoover, married to Ruth (Zimmerman), Plymouth, Ohio; Elva, married to Eugene Shirk, Shiloh, Ohio; Warren Hoover, married to Luetta (Hoover), Owen, Wisc.; Lucy, married to Nelson B. Martin, Ephrata; and Mark Hoover, Denver; three siblings: Rufus Hoover, Michigan; Raymond Hoover, Ephrata; and Ella Hoover, Denver; 36 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings: Irwin, Harry, Laura, and Paul; and a still-born granddaughter.

Services were held June 15 at Muddy Creek Mennonite Church, Denver, with Bishop Ammon Weaver officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery.
