John O. Herr, 94, farmer, worked at New Holland Machine Company, MCC volunteer
John O. Herr, 94, of Ephrata, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at home.
He was the husband of Priscilla King Herr for more than 23 years; and of the late Lillian Miller Herr, who passed away in 1992. Born in Providence Township, he was the son of the late Elmer and Mary Hess Herr.
John was a member of the Village Chapel Mennonite Church. He was a farmer in the Coatesville and Downingtown area and also worked at New Holland Machine Co. for 15 years. He enjoyed making crafts and volunteering for Mennonite Central Committee. He assembled more than 300 comforter tops for MCC.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five children: Lydia B. Deemer of Ulster; Mary L. Maun and Elisabeth E. (Esteel) Ratcliff, both of Harrisburg; Raymond G. Herr of New York; and Jimmy L. Herr of Dallas, Pa.; six grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and four siblings: Mary Kelly of Washington, Mabel Herr of Lititz, Harold Herr of Haiti, and Earl Herr of California.
He was preceded in death by five siblings: Frank, Warren, Emma, and Edith Herr; and Esther Butler.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Millwood Mennonite Church at 11 a.m., with a time to greet the family from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be private in the church cemetery prior to the service. Pastor Jeff Horst will be officiating.
