John W. Fox 73, former Ephrata resident

John W. Fox, 73, of Downing, Mo., entered into rest Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Mo. after a four-month illness.

John was born Feb. 1, 1941, in Ephrata and was the son of Ivan H. and Hettie G. Fox. He was raised in Ephrata and united in marriage to Nora W. Martin on March 19, 1960. Together they shared nearly 54 years of life’s joys and sorrows. Three sons and three daughters were born to this union. In 1974, they and their family moved to Novelty, Mo. Seventeen years later they moved to Scotland County, Mo. and were members of the Indian Creek Mennonite Church near Memphis, Mo.

John is survived by his wife: Nora Fox, of Downing, Mo.; his sons: J. Richard Fox and his wife, Erma, of Memphis, Mo.; Terry Fox and his wife, Karol, of Leon, Iowa; Jay Fox of Memphis, Mo.; his daughters: Linda Parker of Columbia, Missouri; Donna Martin and her husband, Nevin, of Denver and Nora Hoover and her husband, Jason, of Manitoba, Canada. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, five brothers: Allen Fox and his wife, Vera, of Memphis, Mo.; Ivan Fox and his wife, Barbara, of East Earl; Lloyd Fox and his wife, Esther, of East Ear; Adam Fox of Hutchinson, Kan.; Luke Fox and his wife, Alta, of East Earl and a sister: Mary Zimmerman and her husband, Chris, of Liberty, Ky.

John was preceded in death by his parents: Ivan and Hettie Fox; two brothers: Paul Fox and Melvin Fox; an infant grandson: Justin Fox and an infant great-granddaughter: Jayla Fox.

Funeral services were held Feb. 17 at the Hillcrest Mennonite Community Center and at the Indian Creek Mennonite Church. Burial was in the Indian Creek Mennonite Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memphis Funeral Home.
