John Wall, 86, veteran, Penn Scale retiree

John E. Wall, 86, of Akron, passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 at the Susquehanna Valley Nursing Home in Columbia.

Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Sherman and Florence (Duncan) Wall and the step-son of the late Earl Rettew. He was the husband of Irene (Nolt) Wall.

A veteran of WW II, John worked in construction and retired from Penn Scale. He enjoyed boating, his cabin at the bay and motorcycles.

John is survived by two sons: Jim Wall and Michael Wall, both of Rothsville; a daughter: Sherry Martzall, of Maryland; step-son: Larry Kohl; five step-daughters: Linda Kohl; Donna Musser; Cindy Valerio; Darlene Kachel; and Doris Miller; 14 step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and a sister: Ellen Holmes.

He was preceded in death by his first wife: Joyce Snyder; his son: John Wall Jr.; his borther: Sherman Wall; and his sister: Florence Witmer.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 7 at the Stradling Funeral Home, Akron, with Rev. William Shaub officiating. Burial took place in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors.
