Loumarie Mayhew, 88, registered nurse, instructor at LCCTC, Brethren Village volunteer

Loumarie Mayhew, 88, of Brethren Village, Lancaster, passed away June 19, 2016.

Born in Bay City, Michigan, she was the daughter of Fred and Leomarie Hover.

She graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and later received a master’s degree in education from Villanova University. Loumarie moved to Lancaster in 1964, where she worked as a registered nurse at several local hospitals. Her favorite job was as an instructor of practical nursing students at Lancaster County Career and Technology Center, Willow Street. After retiring in 1992, Loumarie volunteered at Meals on Wheels, the American Cancer Society, and various volunteer activities at Brethren Village. She was an avid reader, loved gardening, birdwatching, and watching the sandpipers at the seashore.

Surviving are a son: Mark Mayhew, (wife Marty) of Tuscon, Ariz.; and three daughters: Karen Siegler, (husband Larry), Lancaster; Cindy Upton, (husband Mark), Danville, Ky.; and Nancy Mayhew Husson of Ephrata. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
