Lydia Mae Shaffer, 87, Akron, Ephrata Re-Uzit, Spring Glen worker, was in sewing circle

Lydia Mae Weaver Nolt Sensenig Shaffer, 87, of Akron, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at the Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born in East Earl Township to the late Reuben and Martha (Hurst) Weaver and was the wife of Ernest Shaffer for 17 years.

Lydia was a member of the Ephrata United Zion Church. She was a member of the church sewing circle and New Holland Senior Citizens. Over the years, she was employed by Victor F. Weaver Poultry, Spring Glen and Ephrata Re-Uzit. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and embroidery.

She is survived by two sons: Ivan W. Jr., husband of Erla (Zimmerman) Nolt of Terre Hill; Alvin, husband of Frances (Spade) Nolt of Quarryville; three daughters: Rose Ann, wife of Robert Esch of Denver; Lois, wife of the late Melvin Esch of Ephrata; Darlene W., wife of Gary Varner of Reinholds; six step-children: Sharon, wife of Donald Griffith of Ephrata; Wanda, wife of John Lutz of Reamstown; Ernest Shaffer Jr. of Calif.; Leslie, husband of Judy Shaffer of Fla.; Allen Shaffer of Akron; Anna Hartranft of Ephrata; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; 12 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Reuben, husband of Ella Weaver of Ephrata; Clarence Weaver of Denver; Henry, husband of Irene Weaver of Reinholds; four sisters: Laura, wife of the late Harvey B. Martin of Ephrata; Elva, wife of Henry Martin of Lebanon; Martha, wife of Menno Hoover of Ephrata; Irene, wife of Aubrey Steffy of Akron.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her first husband: Ivan W. Nolt who passed away in 1980; her second husband: Lloyd Sensenig who passed away in 1995; a daughter: Evelyn W. Nolt; an infant grandson: Randy; a step son: Lloyd G. “Sonny” Sensenig Jr.; three brothers: Adam, Raymond and Leroy Weaver; five sisters, Barbara Martin, Marion, Alice, Mary and Elizabeth Weaver.

A viewing will be held Thursday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Ephrata United Zion Church, 408 E. Fulton St., Ephrata. An additional viewing will take place Friday, Jan. 16, from 1 to 2 p.m., at the church, followed by her funeral service at 2 p.m., with Pastor Jay Showalter officiating. Interment will take place in the Fairview Cemetery, Annex, Denver.
