Margaret ‘Peggy’ Steffan, 70, taught elementary school in Cocalico, member of Bethany UCC

Margaret S. “Peggy” Steffan, 70, of Akron, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Taylor Hospice, Ridley Park.

She was born in Fountain Hill to the late Jordan and Ruth (Nagle) Bast and was the wife of the late Thomas M. Steffan who passed away in 2008.

Peggy was a member of the Bethany United Church of Christ, Ephrata. She was a graduate of Kutztown University and Temple. She earned her master’s degree and was an elementary school teacher in the Cocalico School District, where she retired in 2008. Peggy was active in the democratic committee, loved to read and travel.

She is survived by her two children: Philip, husband of Erin Steffan of Media and Susan, wife of Greg Supsura of Ft. Mill, S.C.; four granddaughters; and a brother: James Bast of Allentown.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 30, at 12 p.m., at the Bethany United Church of Christ, 140 E. Main St., Ephrata, with Rev. William J. LaSalle officiating. Interment will take place in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
