Martha L. Kitchen, 79, singer, long-time missionary, educator, active at Calvary Church

Martha L. Kitchen, 79, of Ephrata, went to be with the Lord whom she loved and served as a missionary since 1961, on Monday, June 11, 2018.

Martha was born in Temple, Texas, to Louis L. Havlik and Anna (Mares) Havlik on Oct. 7, 1938.

She married the love of her life, Donald Kitchen, in 1963. The couple, beginning in 1966, served in the mission field for over 50 years both overseas in Latin America and Spain, and in missions administration at home.

In addition to her husband: Don; Martha is survived by three children: Donald Mark Kitchen husband of Susan (Butler) of Ephrata; Diana Martha Striver of Lancaster; David Matthew Kitchen of Ephrata; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents.

She was gifted, by God, with a beautiful voice which she was blessed to use as part of her ministry both in the missions field and in the choir at Calvary Church Lancaster. She was very active in the life of the church, and was a skilled educator.

In 1994, she received her PhD in religion and society from Oxford Graduate School.

Friends may gather for a viewing at Calvary Church Lancaster, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, on Saturday, June 16, from 3 to 4 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m., with Rev. Robert Kilgore officiating. A time of fellowship will take place following the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
