Mary Deiter, 88, farmer, LGH volunteer, missionary
She was the wife of the late Robert H. Deiter, who died on Oct. 11, 2013. Mary and her late husband, Robert, farmed vegetables in East Lampeter Township, stood on the former Southern Market and had worked winter months for Miller’s Greenhouses, Landisville. She and Robert also had an egg and celery route.
Born April 20, 1925 in Lancaster Township, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin H. and Selena (Charles) Eshbach. She was a long-time member of Millersville Mennonite Church and Sunday School and served in numerous capacities. She also did a mission trip to Honduras. On Robert and Mary’s 40th wedding anniversary, they traveled to Alaska which meant a lot to her. Mary enjoyed making quilts and volunteering at LGH for 33 years.
Also surviving are four children: Jane L., married to Noland E. Wenger of Lititz; James R. Deiter, married to Barbara A. Himpsl Deiter of Holtwood; Miriam E., married to Dale E. Ranck of New Danville; Lois A., married to Eugene N. Clemens of Conestoga; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Benjamin C. and D. Charles Eshbach.
Funeral Services were held at the Millersville Mennonite Church, Millersville, Jan. 10. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery.
