Melissa K. Kurtz, 34, OMPH member, held dual degrees, sons were her greatest joy

Melissa K. Kurtz, 34, of Bowmansville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.

She was the born in Reading, on July 14, 1983, and was the daughter of Russell and Marianne M. (Collins) Kurtz of Bowmansville.

Melissa was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Ephrata, and attended Petra Church, New Holland. She graduated from Garden Spot High School in 2001 and LaSalle University in 2005 with degrees in psychology and criminal justice. Melissa had a passion for the Lord and a love of life. Her greatest joy was raising her two sons and spending time with them.

Melissa was the loving mother of two sons: Joshua, age six; and Jeremiah, age two; a brother: Shawn, husband of Leanne Kurtz of Reading; maternal grandmother: June Collins of Pottsville; paternal grandmother: Martha Kurtz of Mohnton and many aunts, uncles and nieces.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, Jan. 25, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 320 Church Ave., Ephrata. Final commendation and farewell will be held in Petra Memorial Park, New Holland.
