Melvin Ray Herr, 78, Ephrata, Army vet, was mill hand at Pennfield, OMPH member

Melvin Ray Herr, 78, of Ephrata, formerly of Elm, passed away Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at the Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in Warwick Township to late Eleanor Barbara (Herr) Engle and was the husband of Betty Jane (Fulton) Herr.

Melvin was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Ephrata. He had worked as a mill hand at Pennfield Corporation, served his country in the US Army and volunteered at Maple Farm Nursing Center.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Brenda Steininger of Lancaster; Teresa, wife of Willie Sullivan of Taylorsville, Miss.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother: Clarence “Butch,” husband of Diane Engle of Stevens; and a sister: Carol, wife of Harold Krimes of Rothsville.

Services were held Nov. 13 at Stradling Funeral Home, Akron, with Rev. Father John McLoughlin, C.SS.R. as celebrant. Final Commendation and Farewell took place in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
