Mildred K. Fitterling, 93, WWII vet, Adamstown VFW Auxiliary member, Swamp Lutheran parishioner

Mildred K. Fitterling, 93, Keystone Villa, Ephrata, formerly of Adamstown, died Aug. 10, 2015, in Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

She was born in Knauers, Berks County, a daughter of the late Harry K. and Edna (Gross) Kring. Her husband, Pierce C. Fitterling, died Oct. 28, 1994.

A graduate of East Cocalico High School, she was a World War II veteran, serving as an air traffic controller with the Navy WAVES. Mildred was a member of Swamp Lutheran Church and worked as an inside sales representative for Polymer Corp./Morton-Thiokol, Reading. She was past organist of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Adamstown, and Allegheny Lutheran Church, Alleghenyville; first president and life member of Adamstown VFW Ladies Auxiliary, life member of Gouglersville Grange, former member of Adamstown Woman’s Club, and past activities receptionist at Cocalico Senior Center, Reinholds.

Surviving is her daughter: Dolores A. (Frank J.) D’Aiello, Mohnton; granddaughter: Jessica (J. Michael) Moats, Blandon; great-grandchildren: Mikayla, Zackary, and Kyle; sister: Arlene L. Slabach, Lititz; and brother: Harry Kring, Alleghenyville.

Services were held Aug. 17 at Swamp Lutheran Church, Reinholds, with the Rev. Dennis L. Trout officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown.
