Nancy Bishop Risser, 79, worked at Sperry, car dealership, 50-year-plus member of Eastern Star

Nancy Bishop Risser, 79, Ephrata, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Benjamin “Benny” Carl and Mary (Killian) Bishop, her husband of 54 years, James H. Risser, died Oct. 22, 2011.

An Ephrata High School graduate, Nancy received her Bachelor of Business Degree in 1956 from Elizabethtown College, from where her daughter also graduated. She worked in Human Resources for Sperry New Holland and in early years for her father’s car dealership, Benny Bishop Chrysler Plymouth, Ephrata. She was a 50-plus-year member of The Order of Eastern Star. A member of Bethany United Church of Christ, she was an avid reader and member of the Book Club Circle and volunteered at Ephrata Playhouse in the Park. She cherished her family and had a special relationship with her grandchildren.

Surviving is her daughter: Ann Elizabeth, wife of Brian Vaughan Beal, Collegeville; and grandchildren: Shawn Nolan, Erin Alexandra and Delaney Katherine Beal.

A memorial celebration of Nancy’s life will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 10 a.m. from Bethany United Church of Christ, 140 E. Main St., Ephrata, with Rev. Dr. James R. Haun officiating. Private inurnment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata.
