Nelson Edward Gunn, 84, National Guard vet, Crown, Cork & Seal worker, Baltimore sports fan

Nelson Edward Gunn, 84, died on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 at Talbot Hospice House in Easton.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1934 in Baltimore, Md., the son of the late Lawrence and Grace Hartzell Gunn.

He attended Patterson High School in Baltimore and served honorably in the National Guard from 1953 through 1961.

He married the former Ruth Keller on July 22, 1962 in Ephrata. They lived in Baltimore, Md. before moving to Cordova in July 2018.

Nelson was employed as a machinist for Crown, Cork & Seal in Baltimore, Md., for 23 years. He was a member of the Dundalk Church of the Brethren from 1962 to 2016 and the New Light Lutheran Church, from 2016 to 2018. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police, the Chorus of the Chesapeake, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Nelson was a life-fan of Baltimore sports, including the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Colts, and Baltimore Ravens. Nelson enjoyed playing softball, and his lifelong friends with whom he played cards for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Ruth K. Gunn; children: Christl DeNiro and her husband Kimo, of Boardman, Ohio; and Eric Gunn and his wife Jody of Cordova, Md.; a sister: Sharyn Kahl and her husband Steven of Middleboro, Md.; and four grandchildren: Benjamin Gunn, Rocco DeNiro, Carlo DeNiro and Amelia Gunn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Lawrence Gunn and Charles Gunn.

A memorial service will be held at New Light Lutheran Church, 2120 Dundalk Ave., Baltimore, Md., on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m.
