Phyllis Larue Steierwald, 72, program secretary, LEFC member, enjoyed volunteering

Phyllis Larue Steierwald, 72, of Akron, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born in Danville to the late John and Grace (Stehr) Heim, and was the wife of Lance R. Steierwald, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage.

She was a member of Lancaster Evangelical Free Church, Lititz. Phyllis was a secretary for the Impaired Driver Program of Lancaster County before retiring in 2000. She was also co-director of the Akron after-school program for many years. She enjoyed camping, reading, playing games, and volunteering at church. She invested her time into friends and loved ones and made them feel special.

In addition to her husband, Phyllis is survived by a daughter: Lori Cessna; and two grandsons,: LeRoy and Samuel Freidly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers: Glen and Neil Heim.

A life celebration service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 11:30 a.m., at the Lancaster Evangelical Free Church, 419 Pierson Road, Lititz. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
