Richard A. Pomeroy Sr., 76, worked for SICO, volunteered at Cloister, made historic reproductions

Richard A. Pomeroy Sr., 76, of Ephrata Township, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side, just the way he wanted, at Manor Care of Lancaster on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017.

Surviving Richard are his wife: Jo Ann R. (Childers) Pomeroy; their children: Dawn, wife of Daryl L. Martin, of Ephrata; Richard Arthur Pomeroy Jr., husband of Renee, of Ephrata; grandchildren: Melinda Grubb, wife of Troy Grubb, of Leola; Brian Martin, husband of Jennifer, of Ephrata; Nathan Martin, husband of Alison, of Reamstown; Amy Ash, wife of Brian, Cornwall; and Richard Arthur Pomeroy III of Ephrata. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren: Lila, Kiera, Seth, and Justin.

Richard was predeceased by his parents.

Richard was born on Aug. 2, 1941, in Pinewald, N.J., to George and Marion (Applegate) Pomeroy. He graduated from Toms River High School in 1960. He married his high-school sweetheart and love of his life, Jo Ann Childers, in 1963. Richard began working for Sica-Skiff as a boat builder but later found the work he truly loved as a heavy equipment operator. When the family moved to this area, he worked for SICO Oil Co.

He volunteered at the Historic Ephrata Cloister as a carpenter and woodworker. He made and sold historic reproductions.

There will be a viewing on Thursday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m., at Gravenor Home for Funerals, 100 W, Main St., Ephrata. The viewing will be followed by a service at noon. Interment at Brunnerville United Brethren Cemetery will follow the service.
