Robert J. Michalik, 65, was in first class at OMPH School, spent 35 years in Puerto Rico

Robert J. Michalik, 65, of Fleetwood, passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, peacefully at home.

Born in Norristown, Robert was a son of the late Emeric J. Michalik and Dolores E. (Walukiewicz) Michalik. He grew up in Ephrata, and was a first grade student in the very first class at Our Mother of Perpetual Help School when it opened in 1957.

He was a 1969 graduate of St. Mary’s Seminary High School in North East, and later earned his undergraduate degree from St. Alphonsus College in Suffield, Conn.; and his Master of Divinity from Mount St. Alphonsus in Esopus, N.Y.

Robert lived in Puerto Rico for 35 years and had recently returned to the area to be closer to his family and friends.

Robert is survived by one brother: Fr. Anthony E. Michalik C.Ss.R., of St. Peter the Apostle Parish – National Shrine of St. John Neumann in Philadelphia; two sisters: Elizabeth Ann, wife of Bart C. Wenrich of Fleetwood; and Marcia Ann, wife of James H. Ostrowski of Lancaster; two nephews: Gavin T. Wenrich and Adam J. Ostrowski; one niece: Laura E. Ostrowski; four aunts: Mary Krutsick, Victoria Michalik, Theresa Neupauer, and Francine Walukiewicz; and several cousins.

Friends will be received at Gravenor Home For Funerals 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9 to 10:45 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, 320 Church Ave., Ephrata, at 11 a.m. Final Commendation and Farewell will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery on Monday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m.
