Shirley J. Myers, 75, of Denver, passed into the arms of Jesus Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Hospice and Community Care in Mt. Joy.

She was the wife of Lloyd D. Myers with whom she was married to for 56 years.

Shirley was born in Hershey in 1939 where she lived on the family farm with her nine brothers and sisters. She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary McCorkel. She graduated in 1956 from Hershey High School and married Lloyd in 1957. In 1964 she moved to California with Lloyd and her sons where she worked as a business manager for a private school until returning to Pennsylvania in 1979. Upon her return, she became a real estate agent and worked in this field which she enjoyed immensely until her recent and unexpected illness.

Shirley was a member of Mohler Church of the Brethren in Ephrata for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and greatly enjoyed pets and caring for animals.

Surviving in addition to her husband, are her four sons: Linton, married to Tamie (Braine) of Greensboro N.C.; Jim, married to Denise (Snyder) of Lititz; Kent, married to Jody (Hackman) of Denver and Randy of Ephrata; four grandchildren; a sister: Charlotte Rissler and brothers: Jake, Paul, and Sam McCorkel.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three sisters: Mildred, Geraldine and Mary and two brothers: Lloyd and Donald.

A funeral took place Jan. 27 at the Mohler Church of the Brethren, Ephrata, with Pastor Carl Brubaker officiating. Interment will take place in the Mohler Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to Hospice & Community Care, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mt. Joy, PA 17552.
