Thelma J. Wickenheiser, 89, of Ephrata, formerly of Salunga, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at her home.

She was born in Lock Haven, the daughter of Axel and Anna M. (Wren) Johnson.

She was a member of Grace Church in Ephrata.

Thelma graduated from the Methodist Episcopal School of Nursing in 1948 and worked as a register nurse in several different hospitals including the former St. Joseph Hospital and St. Ann’s Home.

She loved to interact with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and was a talented artist.

Thelma is survived by five children: Anthony, husband of Cynthia Wickenheiser of Joppatown, Md.; Jeff V. Wickenheiser of Denver, Colo.; Diane, wife of Mike Andes of Ephrata; Susan, wife of Kim Robertson of Ephrata; Carol, wife of Harry Miller of Fort Worth, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and two sisters: Margaret, wife of the late Dr. James Christian and Doris, wife of Robert Herr.

A memorial service was held at Grace Church, Ephrata, Feb. 19 with Pastor Kim Robertson officiating. Interment will take place in the Dunnstown Cemetery in Lock Haven Feb. 20 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Thelma’s memory may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
