Timothy L. Treier, 63, formerly of Brownstown, passed away May 9, 2017 at his home in Bluffton, S.C.

Tim was born Sept. 1, 1953, in Lancaster County where he attended Conestoga Valley High School. His senior year he was the all-star point guard of Conestoga Valley’s basketball team. He went on to attend Elizabethtown College and received his B.S. in teaching. He later received his master’s in guidance counseling from Millersville University.

Tim taught alternative education at Willow Street VoTech with IU13 and later taught at Phoenix Academy and McCaskey High School, both in Lancaster City.

Basketball was his passion in life. He coached at various levels of high school basketball in countless Lancaster County High Schools including Lampeter-Strasburg, Manheim Central, and Ephrata.

Tim was assistant basketball coach at Millersville University from 1985 to 1996, during their winning seasons. He also enjoyed the many summers (1994 to 2004) he spent in Italy coaching WBSC Super Camp with Stefano Colombo. He made and sustained many friendships from that experience. He was admired by other coaches and published in different coaching magazines.

He was a devout Catholic and found joy teaching second grade CCD with his wife for many years at St. James Catholic Church in Lititz.

Tim was a dearly loved father; loving, attentive and generous. He emotionally and financially supported his children throughout the years, giving them opportunities that they may not otherwise have had. He had a huge heart, and was a caring, kind and a good man who always was there to lend a helping hand to all he knew. He was beloved by his family and friends.

Tim lived his dream by retiring in South Carolina, where he played golf every day, walked along the beach and swam in the pool. He enjoyed the friendships of others in the community and participating in the community activities.

Tim is survived by his wife: Denise Crowley-Treier of Bluffton, S.C. He and his wife had a 42-year relationship as friends first and always. His children are: Maureen Kopp of Millersville; Rosemary Kopp of Carneys Point, N.J.; and Rory Kopp of Reading. He also has two grandchildren: Aubree and Gunner.

Memorial service plans will follow.

Please send donations in honor of Tim to: Special Olympics Basketball Program of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 7442, Lancaster, PA 17604-7442.
