Violet Fern Wiest, 95, formerly of Clay, worked in cafeteria at EHS, Clay Elementary

Violet Fern (Kauffman) Wiest, 95, of Manheim, formerly of Clay, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at Pleasant View Retirement Community.

She was born in Lexington to the late Harry and Elsie (Steely) Kauffman and was the wife of the late Lemon S. Wiest, who died in 1989.

She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Lititz. She loved gardening in her yard, and birds. Violet was a former cafeteria worker at Clay Elementary School and Ephrata High School, and worked with her late husband at different business ventures.

Violet is survived by a son: Terry Lee, husband of Joan Wiest of The Villages, Fla.; a daughter: Trudy Dianne, wife of Jonathan G. Pomeroy of Kane; a brother: Lamar Kauffman of Lancaster; a sister: Jean Stark of West Chester; three grandchildren: Rod Wiest, Vickie (Richard) Epler, and Jennifer (Mike) Pascarella; five great-grandchildren: Christopher, Caroline and Emily Epler, Kristen Wiest-Outzen, and Vaughn Wiest; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, Jan. 7 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., in Ephrata. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Nathan Fry officiating. Interment will take place in the Middle Creek Brethren Cemetery.
