Wilbert C. Martin, 87, PennDOT, Eagle Soap worker, active UZ volunteer, antique collector

Wilbert C. Martin, 87, of Brickerville, Elizabeth Township, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018, at Lancashire Hall nursing home in Lancaster.

He was the loving husband of the late Leona E. (Riehl) Martin, and the son of the late Clayton and Suetta (Stover) Martin.

He is survived by three children: Thelma of North Carolina, Richard of Florida, and Robert of Ephrata; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother: Lloyd of Stevens.

He was preceded in death by a son: Clair Ray Martin.

Wilbert was born in Hinkletown, and was a lifetime resident of Lancaster County. He was employed by the Eagle Soap Company of Terre Hill for 16 years as a truck driver, and 23 years as an equipment operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

He was a member of the Reinholds United Zion Church and Sunday school. He was also a volunteer for United Zion Retirement Community, for many years, pushing wheelchairs in for Sunday service, supplying turkeys for their Thanksgiving dinners, and anything else that was needed.

Wilbert’s heart’s desire was to “Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord, He is God; It is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.” – Psalm 100 2-3.

His hobbies included collecting antiques, Lancaster County milk bottles, and old toys. He was also a woodworker.

Services were held March 17 at Hahnstown United Zion Church, Ephrata. Interment followed in the adjoining church cemetery.
