Wilbur Thomas Hartranft, 93, dairy farmer, hay hauler, competed in plowing contests, avid hunter

Wilbur Thomas Hartranft, 93, of Bethel, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was born in Ephrata to the late William and Annie (Sweigart) Hartranft, and was the husband of Pauline Y. (Knauer) Hartranft.

Wilbur was a member of Blainsport Mennonite Church. He was a dairy farmer and hauled hay for local farmers for 38 years. After retiring he enjoyed helping his sons on their farm. He also enjoyed hunting and horses in which he competed in plowing contests.

In addition to his wife, Wilbur is survived by six children: Lillian Ann, wife of R. Bernell Burkholder, of Bethel; Ella Elaine Hartranft of Bernville; Wilbur Thomas Jr., husband of Linda (Hollinger) Hartranft, of Selinsgrove; John William Hartranft of Bernville; Kathryn Mae, wife of Scott Reed, of Lebanon; Stanley George Hartranft of Milan; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Harry Hartranft of Womelsdorf; and Leroy, husband of Kathryn (Knauer) Hartranft, of Bernville.

He was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, and six brothers and sisters.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Blainsport Mennonite Church, 85 S. Blainsport Road, Reinholds. An additional viewing will be held at the church on Thursday, June 23, from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by funeral services at 10 a.m., with Bishop Keith Weaver officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.
